It is a museum unique in France. One of the most famous wines of France, and even perhaps the most famous, therefore of the world (!), It has already welcomed more than one million visitors since it was created in 1993.
The aim of George and Franck Duboeuf was simple. Giving everyone the keys to understand the world of wine and to leave the Wine Hamlet, not only as an expert, but perhaps even as an amateur.
At the same time an exhibition of tools and materials, recalls the life of the wine, and the one of the vine growers, you will walk along models, such as the PLM line (Paris-Lyon-Marseilles), as its history is closely linked to the transport of the wine.
The children adore and like to learn, while having fun and by listening to the commentaries of personalities, such as Paul Bocuse, Bernard Pivot, and Michel Chevalet who give their contribution with enthusiasm.
One of the jewels of the visit remains the imperial coach, offered to Napoleon III, by
the Compagnie du Nord, but one likes the walk through the 10.000 m2 of the covered and air-conditioned Hameau and also in the alleys of the Gardens, which gather all the flavours, perfumes and savours of the vintages of the Beaujolais wine, in six small theme gardens.
This year, a new film on wine during Antiquity and a diaporama on the Beaujolais and Mâconnais wines enhance the animations. A small train connects the Wine Hamlet (Hameau du Vin) to the Garden, with a halt to the Shop, entirely renovated and where the vintages of the house abound; there are also bottles from wine growers from all over the world, a bookshop and delicatessen products, and the restaurant where one tastes the good and solid cooking from the Beaujolais area.
