Week end in Beaujolais, for lovers of rural landscape and produce
14 Sept 2006
Tweet

We are in the heart of Beaujolais and a stone’s throw from Bourgogne. Vines, Romanesque churches and all the rural architecture are really worth the detour. It is the occasion to organize a short tasting-session stay in the wine storehouses and to discover a truly wonderful region.

Château de la Chapelle des Bois

Fleurie is a jewel and, to discover this charming village which is quite emblematic of the Beaujolais area, nothing is better than a stay in a guest house where you are well treated and where good restaurants abound in quantity.

Our steps lead us to Jean-Luc Canard and Elyett Conesa, in Emeringes. They are wine growers whose fields cling onto the granite slopes of historical Beaujolais, on which are planted their ancient vines. You can stay there and discover the whole area, but you can also taste this marvellous fine wine, with the flavours of fruits and flowers.

Chambre - Domaine de Monsepeys

Their Beaujolais wine is a wonder. The grapes are harvested by hand, in whole bunches and the wine growers adore to speak about their work and their area. A profitable stay for all elegant wine amateurs!

At Château de la Chapelle des Bois, you have another rendez-vous with a human adventure. Olivier Salus and Agnès changed their job when they were thirty years old; they had to work hard and to learn all kinds of trades, to give a future to this beautiful 18th century castle.

Domaine de Monsepeys

The restoration lasted more than three years but the result is worth it. Many foreign visitors (mainly from Northern Europe) in love with France, Beaujolais area and its history, fill up, several times a year, the five rooms all furnished in the style of the historical character who gave them their names. All those who adored the film Marie Antoinette , by Sofia Coppola, will want to give up the alleys of Versailles, to settle in the suite of rooms of her name. Undoubtedly, the Beaujolais area, its wines and the whole countryside have inexhaustible resources.

The real recipe for Coq au Vin of Fleurie.
