Among the three hundred springs which gush from the volcanic soil in the Ardèche, there are one hundred and forty three cold water springs filtering through Vals les Bains. Eight of them are very smart and have very performing therapeutic properties. They have been baptized Dominique, Dèsirèe, Prècieuse, Rigolette, a little like as many beneficient and conniving fairies. But above all, there is the Constantine, very strongly mineralized and particularly effective to support the Cure Minceur (slimming cure). It is to be drunk only in very small quantities, since it can be compared to a medicine. If you are very thirsty, you would be better of choosing the Saint Jean, the Favorite or even more the Bèatrix which you can drink rapidly and without moderation, after long walks in particularly nice surroundings.
The Cure Minceur lasts six days under the attentive control of Mèlody Hocquet-Chambert, dietician, with whom five hotel restaurants in the town have signed the dietary charter. Together, they elaborate the recipes and most of the participants are very impressed to lose four kilos during the week, while regaling themselves and without any feeling of hunger.
The slimming stay is built on health education based on three fundamental gestures: eating better, resume a physical activity and take advantage of the water and thermal cures. Becoming slimmer means, above all, not putting the weight back on; so, after three months, Mèlody calls her clients to take stock with them and track any resumption of bad habits.
Within the framework of the Vals les Bains SPA, one can take advantage of the swimming pool, jacuzzi, aquajets, hamman and everything that makes up healthy pleasures through water. There is also this astonishing product: for about 10 euros per session, and around any cure, you can overcome your fear of water, if necessary. A female swimming instructor will hold your hand in a 1, 35 meters deep basin. Everyone who has tried it now wonders why they did not do so earlier!

Christiane Brioude, the hôtel du Vivarais chef / owner as well as a specialist of preparations made with sweet chestnuts from the Ardèche, proposes, in the context of her slimming menus, meals such as: loup grillè au fenouil avec petites tomates et purèe d’ail (roasted bass with small tomatoes and mashed garlic) or l’estouffade d’agneau avec ses lègumes grillès. (Lamb stew with its roasted vegetables)
Sometimes there are even chestnuts, for instance in the bonus recipe.
