From farm to farm : Follow the scarecrow !

Between farmers and the tourism business, it is a love story that goes back a long way in the Rhône-Alpes region. Every year, the farm to farm operation invites people to discover life on the farm during the last week end of April. Among the five hundred farms which take part in the operation at national level, two hundred are situated in our region. What good health!

On April 29th and 30th, all aboard! But this can also mean on foot, bike or motorbike! You can travel together as a family, in twos or with good friends, exploring fields, gardens, calves, cows, pigs, broods living in our countryside and are an invitation to all to meet them. It is easy to find them, you just have to look for the participating farms list on the internet website and then find the scarecrow which indicates that the farm takes part in the operation and that visitors are welcome.

In the Rhône-Alpes region, four departments, the Ardèche, the Loire, the Drôme and the Rhône take part in the event and it is the best time to see unusual and untraditional farms but which have in common a very well developed sense of welcome.

To be discovered at Sevelinges (42): a laboratory of jam and crystallized flowers fabrication, Beaujolais wines at Charnay (69) in stone house of golden hue, almond cultivation at Saint Marcel d’Ardèche (07), herds of ostriches at Livron in the Drôme. There is also this unusual horned animal breeding farm whose herds cannot easily be conducted with a strong hand: the snails of the Ferme Margot at Souternon in the Monts de la Madeleine !

It is an educational farm in which Evelyne Cros breeds upwards of three hundred and ten thousand Gros Gris who quietly live in a large farm and do not disturb the neighbours at all with their excessive squeals!

Children love discovering this particular kind of animal typical of our country. During these educational days, they will even learn how to cook them and can participate in a snail race.

Evelyne welcomes with pleasure and absolutely free, all visitors to her farm during the summer months. She just asks to be informed in advance in order to be available for you. It is hard to find a warmer welcome!

Informations pratiques
La 7th edition of the open doors operation Rhône Alpes de ferme en ferme takes place during the week end, on April 29th and 30th. To find the operation farm members, you just have to get the leaflets of each department where the farm address list is noted, and the road map, on www.defermeenferme.com website or ask the CIVAM departmental federations (Centre d’Initiative pour Valoriser l’Agriculture et le Milieu rural)

www.civam.org
You will also find the address list of the guest houses, rural gites and restaurants, partners of the ferme en ferme operation.
The operation lasts the whole week-end and visitors are advised to use the time over the WHOLE weekend in order to avoid the concentration of visits on Sunday afternoon.
