Golf : Come back to the greens
30 Mar 2006
Tweet

In the Rhône-Alpes region, the greens are declined in every shade of green: olive-green, bottle-green, sea-green and dark-green, as many shades as the rich and distinctive landscapes. Let us begin the season with the southernmost of the sixty four regional golf-courses.

Second golfing region in France, Rhone-Alpes sees with the coming of spring, the delicate green colour breaking through the melting snow.

Our olive-green golf-course is an allusion since it has been chosen in the Vivarais, the part of Ardèche that is called with butter , in contrast with the south which is baptized with oil .

Thus, it is in the Annonay countryside, in the heart of the green Ardèche that the Gourdan domain unrolls its fairways in a vast park enclosed by bicentenary trees.

The eighteenth holes of this undulating golf course, with raised starting points, covers 5 900 metres and its main characteristic is a feeling of space thanks to the width of its fairways. It has been open since 1988 and welcomed the pro championship France tournament in 1994.

It is truly a resort, with its three star hotel, its indoor swimming pool and its restaurant which proposes a rapid menu for golfers, but also offers a menu for all those who play slow-golf, taking their time to go round the course, and for the non-golfers who accompany them.

The latter will be able to discover Annonay, capital of paper, (the Canson museum can be visited) and the cradle of the inventors of the montgolfière (hot air balloon). This could even be the occasion of a first flight in a hot air balloon. Another tourist attraction is the Safari Parc de Peaugres with its animals roaming freely, or even more simply, hiking or off-road biking in the Ardèche springtime.

For good measure, the golf-course managers, who are also members of the Club Privilège (which groups three golf courses in the Vallèe du Rhône ), have an agreement with the SPA the Jardin d’Epicure .

This enables sportsmen, members or guests, to offer themselves a relaxing moment of balneotherapy and massage.
