The Lac Vert, hooves in the water
23 Mar 2006
Tweet

If you have never been on horseback before, and if you are not against trying it, even if it’s just to go with your favourite riders for a ride in the forest, try this horseback ride at the Lac Vert. It is even reserved for absolute beginners!

It is a brilliant idea. Really! It is about going all together as a family or with friends in groups of six people maximum, accompanied by a guide qualified in equestrian tourism. First of all the ride is a pleasure and, for experienced riders, enjoying the landscape and the forest is not the least of the charms of the subject.

You start off at an easy pace and begin on easy pathways, which the horses know very well. You go across the forest, you climb a little since it is a ride in the mountains, but it is the horse that does the effort, and then, when you come out of the woods, the Mont Blanc range can be seen in the distance; since you are in Passy, surrounded by the highest range of Europe.

When you arrive at the Lac Vert banks, the horses refresh their hooves in the water. This is better for the mounts than for the riders, because the water is freezing throughout the year!

So, the ride can be recommended in case there is a heat wave! On the way back, you can once more admire the lake from the height of a look out point and you are really pleased that you have been able to enjoy the ride up, without having to spend an hour at the riding school learning how to keep in the saddle.

All of this is thanks to the patience and the know-how of the organisers of Ecuries d’Antan , true horse lovers who know how to carefully adapt the horses to the level of the riders. The farm made of wood and stone is magnificent and carefully preserved. Throughout the year, the owners take care of the maintenance of the equestrian paths.

This ride to the Lac Vert is one of the most attractive ones as all those who participate take pleasure in doing it, but numerous different programmes are also proposed to suit every riding level. Rides and bivouac, for instance, to explore the Saisies, the Aravis, the Semnoz, the Beaufortain, and the Glières. You get to like it very quickly!

Informations pratiques
This ride is one of those proposed in the new guide book Guide BaLaDo that compiles 450 new and unusual ideas in Rhône-Alpes region that you can carry out in 1 hour or 1 day. It is N°141.
BaLaDo Rhône-Alpes 19,90 euros in bookshops.
