Dancing in the streets
17 Août 2010
Tweet

The parade of companies and dance enthusiasts which closes every two years the Dance Biennial event in Lyon, is considered by Guy Darmet, its founder in 1984 and manager of the Maison de la Danse, as a pinnacle. With more than four thousand five hundred participants in the streets of Lyon, he has attained his goal: to make dance liked by the largest number. Tremendous objective.

Since its creation, the Maison de la Danse has been welcoming the most prestigious companies, allowed the most illustrious choreographers to make their first steps. The title of world capital of dance given to Lyon resulting from Guy Darmet’s efforts has not usurped.

After the 2012 Biennial event he will hand over the reins to Dominique Hervieux, but, in the meantime, he remains the project manager of this 2010 edition, that he defines himself as a free bird with no particular subject, except that it greedily proclaims Once more and organizes the parade this festive jewel around La vie en Rose theme. Universally universal.

Among the numerous companies and seventeen (!) creations coproduced for the 2010 edition, the presence will be noted, for its first invitation to the Biennial event, of the great Pina Bausch’s Wuppertal Tanztheater. One of the major choreographers of the 20th century who passed away in 2009.

For the first time in France, one will be able to admire the virtuoso dancers of the American company Alvin Ailey 2 with theTambours du Bronx music.

Another highlight with the Angelin Preljocaj ballet and the Bolchoi Theater which will mean something, even for those who have no experience of the dance universe. It is the same with Rite of Spring by the Monte Carlo Ballets. Guy Darmet knows how to use this kind of fame so that dance can be enjoyed.

Last, but not least «Balé de Rua », a Brazilian company is programmed in the Salle 3000 venue at the end of festival. Before the Parade will take place in the streets of Lyon on September 12th. Pink dress code for everyone. Of course!
