All his admirers know; Berlioz had, above all, a sense of fury and outrageousness. One thousand choir members to accompany his works did not frighten him. Better still, he claimed them.
For twelve days, La Côte Saint- André, which permanently celebrates this native of the town, will pay him tribute with symphonic concerts, chamber music, outdoor concerts, readings, a banquet in the Louis XI castle courtyard, set up specially since 2003 to celebrate the Berlioz bicentenary, the medieval covered market, the garden of his own house and other places of the Dauphiné country, characterized by its houses in pisé and round stones, such as the Marnans and Grand-Lemps churches and other intimate places.
More than fifty events participate in the celebration of the work of this romantic genius, there are one thousand invited artists, more than two hundred volunteers who roll up their sleeves and more than twenty thousand spectators who are in raptures.
Of course one will retain The Childhood of Christ by Lyon National orchestra and Bernard Têtu’s regional Choruses, Berlioz Memoirs by Paris Orchestral Ensemble conducted by Jean-François Heisser, the Fantastic Symphonies performed by Jacques Mercier and the Lorraine National orchestra in the courtyard of Louis XI castle, for one thousand and six hundred spectators privileged by the acoustic and visibility conditions worthy of the greatest venues. But also; Under Hector Berlioz’s balcony , a cycle of small surprising and delightful concerts in association with the museum.
