During more than two weeks, one can jazze in Grenoble in all the corners of the city, primarily in the streets where the music comes down like the theatre has already done. It will be the case with four days of brass bands strolling about Grenoble streets.
Who would have imagined, twenty years ago that jazzmen would become so innovative and bold and that one would produce them with such an enthusiasm.
Basis are classic, fed from the source of afro-American music, but creators are moving towards world music, contemporary music, popular music …
This is the aim of the great cellist Ernst Reisjeger who, from a lyric framework, derives towards improvisation and contemporary music, while remaining fascinated by traditional music.
Mederic Collignon pays tribute to the tandem Enio Morricone-Sergio Leone, but he mixes rather stunning punk-rock accents into his improvisations.
The great Charlie Haden, companion of monsters such as Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane, Keith Jarrett or even Chet Baker, plays with the Quartet West, the Must of the jazz stage of the mid 20th century.
In highlight and at the close, it is the incredible Maceo Parker who has never been far from his saxophone since he was eight years old, joined James Brown when he was nineteen years old and creates his own projects at the crossroads of punk, RnB and jazz.
A detail which has its importance, during his previous visit, in 2000, the curtain call lasted as long as the concert itself!
