Wool makes its show
03 Fév 2010
Tweet

The Arpin spinning mill is a pure product of the mountain craft industry. Installed in Savoie, near the Petit Saint Bernard pass which was crossed by the peddlers who used to sell the woolen fabric at the markets, it still makes, in an ancestral way, the famous Drap de Bonneval, unique in the world. Products are now shown in a very new showroom. Advice is also provided.

Filature Arpin

It is a real craze which is now going on for these woolen fabrics, made indestructible by the soft soap they are coated with, after seventeen operations of cleaning, drying, carding, scratching, winding, pressing… As the spinning mill has been doing for eight generations.

Even if, the famous knickerbockers which equip polar and Himalayan expeditions and the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix are still made at Séez Saint Bernard, what really thrills the fashionistas is the use of the Drap de Bonneval in decoration.

Thus the famous showroom at the heart of the spinning mill, with exhibitions and recommendations over one hundred and twenty square meters. There are lots of new things and the Arpin Mill does not hesitate to mix its woolen sheets with noble materials such as leather, hemp or linen.

Filature Arpin

One can find there fabrics in the form of lengths, tartan rugs, pillows, blankets and carpets, and the big idea is to divert some of these objects to dress a sofa, use a blanket as a bedspread and a very rustic mule sheet as a wall covering.

The colours themselves are in total symbiosis with the mountains. Camaà¯eux of red are mixed with green lichen and blue glacier and the stylists present gladly give lots of advice.

It is in Haute-Tarentaise and it could be nowhere else. Here are the knowledge and the herds of sheeps, fed with fat grass and in the open air and which supply the raw material with their thick and soft wool.
