Summer Fruits in abundance!
30 Juin 2009
Tweet

The Drôme and Ardèche Provençal markets collapse under the weight of ripe and juicy fruits. The Rhône valley is the orchard of France with peaches, nectarines, apricots, pears and kiwis, cherries and raspberries of the Drôme and the Ardèche. To be tasted directly at sunny markets.

Abricots de la Drôme

Every village welcomes the producers at the markets. They abound all summer and there are two not to be missed, one goes to Nyons in the Drôme for fruits and vegetables, but also to shop for local produce and Provençal crafts. In Ardèche, at Vans, stalls take over all the streets of the town and one can find all sorts of things to bring back, besides fruits and vegetables, delicious as nowhere else.

In the heart of this orchard of France constituted by the Southern departments of Rhône-Alpes, the producers of ice creams and sherbets, such as Terre Adélice in Ardèche, transform all these marvels by preserving their nature to the maximum. No conservatives, colouring or aroma intensifying products in the sherbets of the Rousselle brothers, made with more than 60 % pure fruits.

Peches

They show unbridled creativity. More than one hundred and fifty flavours are proposed which can be found on the best tables of the region. In Brasserie Bocuse in Lyon and in Régis Marcon’s Cake shop, 3 stars in the Michelin guide book, at Saint-Bonnet-le-Froid.

Just taste the simple and delicious vine peach and the red William pear, but also the Clairette de Die (Sparkling white wine) sherbet or with green Chartreuse liqueur and, why not, the tomato and basil sherbet with a delicious plateful of vegetables, served with coarse salt and olive oil, all brought back fresh from the market!
