The ruisseling is the inevitable neighbour of frozen waterfall climbing, but it is more accessible. In fact, it is a question of getting back up icy torrents and brooks, wearing crampons, and with a mountain guide indicating where you have to put your feet.
In the Oisans range for example, where one counts no less than six hundred frozen waterfalls among which the famous «Colère du ciel» ( Anger of the sky ) (that cannot be invented!), the initiating waterfall from Fréaux village. It is not rare, that before reaching the stiff 85° passages, one has to follow an icy torrent to progress towards the waterfall, and so practise the ruisselling without knowing it.
This activity can be practised by the whole family, in the heart of winter when everything is well set, by moving preferably on the northern faces, shielded from the sun to avoid untimely melting. Too much snow on the surface is not needed either; otherwise crampons and ice axes have no grip.
All this to say that the ruisseling is a demanding activity and that ideal conditions are needed to practise it, but it is not difficult at all and you can progress in the forest and meet animals. On the Cuculet torrent, for example, or in the Besse canyons which you will find again in summer, in their liquid form and leaping for completely different but just as thrilling experiences.
