Chamonix
The most famous resort of all, Chamonix enjoys a unique location beneath Mont Blanc and offers every alpine sport from skiing to mountaineering.  Enjoy panoramic views from the Aiguille du Midi cable car and take the little train to the Mer de Glace.

Alpine exploration
Chamonix has attracted climbers since the first ascent of Mont Blanc in 1786 but beginners can climb with an expert at centres like St Christophe en Oisans. Or hike the high peaks with a guide and enjoy overnighting in an atmospheric mountain refuge.
