The World’s Largest Ski Area
With 16 linked ski areas, Rhône-Alpes boasts the world’s largest ski area which includes the 3 Valleys and Portes du Soleil, Espace Killy and Paradiski. As well as downhill slopes, they offer facilities for snowboarding, surfing and ski évasion.
Legendary resorts
Rhône-Alpes is home to some of the world’s leading ski resorts, not just for their superb slopes but also their glamorous guests. International celebrities love the luxury boutiques and non-stop social life of Courchevel, Megève and Val d’Isère.
Chamonix is the oldest resort in the northern Alps, the Hôtel d’Angleterre opening in 1770. Alpe d’Huez is the sunniest resort and Val Thorens the highest, with Tignes and Les Deux Alpes a big hit with younger skiers for their party atmosphere.
Spas and après ski
Soothing spa treatments have become an integral part of the après-ski scene and many hotels now have their own spa areas. For the ultimate wellbeing treatment, try the pure thermal waters of resorts like Saint Gervais and Brides les Bains.
Village resorts
If you prefer an authentic village atmosphere, try Morzine with its wooden facades, ornamental balconies and slate roofs. Other traditional resorts include Samoëns, Les Gets, and Le Grand Bornand, St Martin de Belleville and Villard de Lans.
Savour the flavours
Fresh mountain air makes for keen appetites and traditional Alpine cuisine features hearty dishes with cheese and cream, ham and charcuterie. For added atmosphere, enjoy delicious raclette, tartiflette, or fondue in an authentic chalet restaurant.
Winter Wonderland
Away from the buzz of the downhill slopes, there’s an enchanted winter landscape just waiting to be discovered on cross-country skis or snowshoes.  Just follow the marked trails to experience the magic of snowy forests and mountain pastures.
